Is self-storage right for me?

If you’re running out of space at home or at work, self-storage can be a practical and cost-effective solution.

Many people rent a storage unit during life events such as moving, renovating, travelling overseas, downsizing, or expanding a business. Others simply prefer to keep seasonal items, sports equipment, or business stock in a secure location rather than cluttering their home or office.

A storage unit gives you the flexibility to access your belongings when you need them while freeing up valuable space in your everyday environment.

If you’re unsure whether self-storage is the right solution, our team will gladly discuss your needs and recommend the most suitable option.

How does self-storage work?

Renting a storage unit is quick and straightforward.

  1. Choose the storage unit size that best suits your needs.
  2. Complete the rental agreement.
  3. Pay your first month’s rent and the refundable security deposit.
  4. Bring your belongings to the facility.
  5. Secure your unit using your own padlock.
  6. Access your belongings whenever you need them during our access hours.

You remain the only person with access to your locked storage unit, giving you complete control over your stored belongings.

People use self-storage for many different reasons, including:

  • Moving to a new home
  • Renovating a house or apartment

  • Temporary relocation
  • Storing inherited furniture

Choosing the Right Storage Unit

Unit Size Ideal For
6 m² Boxes, seasonal items, sports equipment, or the contents of a studio or small one-bedroom apartment.
7 m² The contents of a one-bedroom apartment, including furniture and appliances.
14 m² The contents of a two- to three-bedroom home or medium-sized business inventory.

Need advice? Contact us before booking—we’ll help you choose the right unit so you don’t pay for more space than you need.

How do I know which storage unit size I need?

The right storage unit depends on what you’re storing, how much access you’ll need, and how long you plan to store your belongings.

As a general guide:

  • 6 m² – Ideal for boxes, bicycles, seasonal decorations, camping equipment, and the contents of a small apartment.
  • 7 m² – Suitable for the contents of a one-bedroom apartment.
  • 14 m² – Perfect for a two- or three-bedroom home or business inventory.
  • 18 m² – Best for large household moves, office relocations, or customers storing large quantities of furniture or stock.

If you’re between sizes, we recommend speaking to our team. We’ll help you compare the available options based on what you’re storing.

What can fit into a 6 m² storage unit?

A 6 m² unit is an excellent choice for customers who need additional space but don’t require a large unit.

Typical items include:

  • Around 40–60 moving boxes (depending on size)
  • A queen-size mattress and bed frame
  • Small sofa
  • Dining table and chairs
  • Television
  • Office desk
  • Bicycle
  • Camping equipment
  • Ski equipment
  • Seasonal decorations
  • Garden tools
  • Household appliances

It’s ideal for storing the contents of a studio apartment or for customers looking to declutter their home.

What can fit into a 7 m² storage unit?

A 7 m² storage unit is suitable for the contents of a typical one-bedroom apartment.

This usually includes:

  • Bedroom furniture
  • Lounge furniture
  • Dining table and chairs
  • Refrigerator
  • Washing machine
  • Television
  • Boxes of clothing and household items
  • Kitchen appliances
  • Sports equipment
  • Office furniture

Many customers also use this size when renovating or moving between homes.

What can fit into a 14 m² storage unit?

A 14 m² storage unit provides generous storage space for larger households or businesses.

Typical contents include:

  • Furniture from a two- or three-bedroom home
  • Multiple beds and mattresses
  • Sofas and lounge suites
  • Dining room furniture
  • Appliances
  • Large numbers of moving boxes
  • Office furniture
  • Business stock
  • Archive boxes
  • Trade equipment

This size is also popular with businesses that need secure storage without renting larger commercial premises.

What can fit into an 18 m² storage unit?

Our 18 m² storage unit is designed for customers with substantial storage requirements.

It is suitable for:

  • Large family homes
  • Office relocations
  • Business inventory
  • Retail stock
  • Trade equipment
  • Furniture from multiple rooms
  • Long-term household storage
  • Large appliance collections

If you’re relocating an entire household or storing business inventory, this is often the most practical choice.

Can I upgrade to a larger storage unit?

Yes.

If your storage needs change, you can move to a larger storage unit, subject to availability.

Our staff will assist you with selecting a larger unit and can advise on the best time to make the move. Upgrading is a common option for customers who begin with temporary storage and later need additional space.

Can I move to a smaller storage unit?

Absolutely.

If you find you’re not using all of your storage space, you may transfer to a smaller unit if one is available.

Many customers do this after selling furniture, completing renovations, or reducing the amount they have in storage.

Simply speak to our team, and we’ll help arrange the transfer.

Is it better to rent a larger unit than I think I need?

Not always.

Our goal is to help you rent the right amount of space, not simply the largest unit.

A well-packed storage unit can often hold far more than customers expect. On the other hand, if you expect to visit your unit regularly, choosing a slightly larger unit may make it easier to organise your belongings and access specific items without unpacking everything.

Our staff are happy to discuss your needs and recommend the most practical and cost-effective option.

Can your staff help me choose the right storage unit?

Yes.

Choosing the right storage unit is one of the most important parts of the rental process, and our team is here to help.

Tell us:

  • What you’re storing
  • Approximately how many boxes you have
  • Whether you’re storing furniture
  • Whether you’ll need regular access
  • Whether you’re storing household or business items

Based on this information, we’ll recommend the unit size that best suits your needs.

Our aim is to ensure you only pay for the storage space you actually need.

What happens if I choose the wrong storage unit?

Don’t worry—this happens from time to time.

If your belongings don’t fit into the unit you’ve selected, we’ll help you move to a larger unit, subject to availability.

Likewise, if you’ve rented a unit that’s larger than necessary, we’ll gladly help you transfer to a smaller unit when one becomes available.

Our goal is to make sure you have the right amount of space without paying for more than you need.

Do larger storage units offer better value?

Generally, yes.

While larger units cost more per month, they often provide a lower cost per square metre, making them excellent value for customers with larger storage requirements.

If you’re storing the contents of an entire home or significant business inventory, a larger unit may be more economical than renting multiple smaller units.

Our team can help you compare the available options and recommend the most cost-effective solution.

Should I leave space to walk inside my storage unit?

If you expect to visit your storage unit regularly, it’s a good idea to leave a narrow walkway so you can reach frequently used items without unpacking the entire unit.

If you’re storing items for a longer period and won’t need regular access, you can maximise the available space by packing the unit more efficiently.

When loading your unit, place items you may need first near the entrance and less frequently used belongings towards the back.

Many customers stay much longer, but you’re welcome to rent your storage unit for as long as you need after the minimum period has been completed.

Some customers only need storage for a few months, while others store their belongings with us for several years.

Can someone else rent a unit on my behalf?

Yes.

A family member, friend, or authorised representative may arrange a rental on your behalf, provided they have the necessary authority and all required documentation can be completed.

If the storage unit will be used by multiple people, please discuss this with our team so we can explain the available access options.

Can I rent more than one storage unit?

Absolutely.

Many customers rent multiple units, particularly businesses with larger storage requirements or families storing the contents of larger homes.

If you anticipate needing additional space in the future, please let us know so we can advise you on the most suitable solution.

  • Welcome you to the facility.

  • Explain access procedures.

We’ll discuss the available options with you and help find the most practical solution.

This allows you to:

  • Confirm the unit size is suitable.
  • Familiarise yourself with the facility.
  • Ask questions about access and security.
  • Feel confident before moving your belongings.

Our team will gladly show you around.

How long does the rental process take?

Your rental costs typically include:

  • Monthly rental
  • Refundable security deposit

If any additional services or charges apply, they will always be discussed with you beforehand.

Is a security deposit required?

Yes.

A refundable security deposit equal to one month’s rental is required when you move into your storage unit.

The deposit helps cover any outstanding amounts or damage beyond normal wear and tear.

Provided all rental obligations have been met, your unit is left in good condition, and there are no outstanding charges, your deposit will be refunded after your rental ends.

When is my monthly rent due?

Rent is payable monthly in advance.

Your payment due date will be specified in your rental agreement. Paying on time helps ensure uninterrupted access to your storage unit and avoids unnecessary reminders or late payment procedures.

If you believe you’ll have difficulty making a payment on time, we encourage you to contact us as early as possible so we can discuss your options.

Which currency do you charge in?

Our rental prices are based in United States Dollars (USD).

Payments are made in Georgian Lari (GEL) using the official exchange rate published by the National Bank of Georgia on the day payment is received, unless otherwise agreed.

If you have any questions about exchange rates or payment calculations, our team will gladly explain how your payment is determined.

Which payment methods do you accept?

  • Bank transfer
  • Debit and credit cards (where available)
  • Other approved payment methods

If you’re unsure whether your preferred payment method is accepted, please contact us before making payment.

Can I pay several months in advance?

Yes.

Many customers choose to pay several months in advance, particularly if they:

  • Are travelling overseas
  • Prefer fewer monthly payments
  • Require long-term storage
  • Want additional convenience

If you’d like to prepay your rental, simply speak to our team.

Do you offer discounts for long-term rentals?

From time to time, Storage Georgia may offer promotions or special pricing for longer rental periods.

These offers may vary depending on unit availability and current promotions.

Please contact us to find out whether any long-term rental discounts are currently available.

Can my rental price change?

Storage Georgia aims to provide stable and transparent pricing.

Any changes to rental rates will be handled in accordance with the terms of your rental agreement. If a price adjustment becomes necessary, we’ll communicate this clearly and provide any required notice.

If you have questions about your rental rate, our team will be happy to assist.

What happens if I miss a payment?

If your payment is overdue, we’ll first contact you to remind you that payment is outstanding.

We understand that unexpected situations can arise, so we encourage customers to communicate with us as early as possible if they anticipate a delay.

Continued non-payment may result in additional action as described in your rental agreement, including restrictions on access or other remedies available under the agreement and applicable law.

Our preference is always to resolve payment matters professionally and cooperatively.

Can I receive invoices?

Yes.

Invoices and payment confirmations are available upon request.

Business customers who require documentation for accounting or tax purposes are welcome to contact our office, and we’ll ensure the appropriate documentation is provided.

Can I receive a receipt after making payment?

Absolutely.

A receipt or payment confirmation can be issued after payment has been received.

If you require copies of previous receipts or invoices, simply contact our office and we’ll assist you.

What happens if my bank transfer takes longer than expected?

Occasionally, bank transfers may take longer to reflect.

If you’ve already made payment, please send us proof of payment. This allows us to verify the transaction while waiting for the funds to clear.

Providing proof of payment promptly helps avoid unnecessary reminders.

Can someone else pay my rent?

Yes.

A family member, employer, or another authorised person may make payment on your behalf.

Please ensure your customer name or unit number is included as the payment reference so we can allocate the payment correctly.

Can I change my payment method later?

Yes.

If you’d like to pay using a different payment method in future, simply let us know.

We’ll advise you of the available options and help make the transition as smooth as possible.

What happens to my deposit when I move out?

Once you’ve vacated your storage unit, we’ll carry out a final inspection.

Provided that:

  • Your rental account is fully paid,
  • The required notice period has been observed,
  • The unit has been emptied,
  • The unit has been left clean,
  • There is no damage beyond normal wear and tear,

your refundable security deposit will be returned in accordance with the terms of your rental agreement.

Why does Storage Georgia require a deposit?

The security deposit protects both the customer and Storage Georgia.

It helps ensure that the unit is returned in good condition and that any outstanding rental charges are settled before the tenancy ends.

For customers who meet the terms of the rental agreement, the deposit is simply refunded after the final inspection.

Access to Your Storage Unit

When can I access my storage unit?

Storage Georgia provides customers with convenient daily access to their storage units.

You may access your unit every day between 09:00 and 20:00, giving you the flexibility to collect or store items when it suits your schedule.

Our office staff are available during office hours to assist with enquiries, new rentals, payments, and general support.

If you require assistance while visiting the facility, our team will be happy to help.

Need to visit regularly? Our convenient access hours make it easy to retrieve or store items whenever you need them.

Can I access my storage unit every day?

Yes.

Customers may access their storage units seven days a week during our published access hours.

Whether you need to collect business stock, retrieve seasonal equipment, or simply add more belongings to your unit, you’re welcome to visit whenever it’s convenient during access hours.

There is no need to schedule an appointment for routine visits.

Do I need to make an appointment to visit my unit?

No.

Once you’re a customer, you’re free to visit your storage unit during our normal access hours without making an appointment.

If you’re planning to move a large quantity of items, require assistance, or need special access arrangements, we recommend contacting us beforehand so we can help make your visit as smooth as possible.

Can I visit my storage unit as often as I like?

Yes.

There is no limit to the number of times you may visit your storage unit during access hours.

Many business customers visit regularly to collect stock or equipment, while private customers may only visit occasionally.

Your storage unit is there for your convenience.

Can someone else access my storage unit?

Yes, but only with your permission.

If you’d like another person, such as a family member, friend, or employee, to access your storage unit, please let us know in advance.

For security reasons, we may ask for identification or confirmation before allowing access to authorised individuals.

Protecting your belongings is one of our highest priorities.

Can my employees access my business storage unit?

Yes.

Many businesses authorise employees to access their storage units.

If multiple people require access, please discuss this with our team so we can record the authorised individuals and explain the appropriate access procedures.

Keeping your authorised contact details up to date helps us maintain a high level of security.

What happens if I forget my key?

If you’ve forgotten your key at home, you’ll need to return with it before you can access your storage unit.

Because customers provide and control their own padlocks, Storage Georgia does not keep spare keys or duplicate keys.

This policy helps ensure that only you have access to your belongings.

What happens if I lose my key?

If you’ve lost the only key to your padlock, please contact our office.

Before any action can be taken, we’ll need to verify that you are the authorised customer or an approved representative.

Depending on the circumstances, you may need to arrange for the lock to be professionally removed and replaced. Any associated costs are generally the customer’s responsibility.

Our staff will explain the process and help ensure it is handled safely and securely.

Do you keep spare keys?

No.

Storage Georgia does not keep spare keys or duplicate keys for customer padlocks.

This is an important part of our security policy and ensures that only the customer controls access to the contents of the storage unit.

We recommend keeping a spare key in a safe place at home or with someone you trust.

Do you provide locks?

Customers are responsible for supplying their own quality padlock.

Using your own lock means that you retain exclusive control over access to your storage unit.

If you’re unsure which type of padlock is suitable, our team will be happy to offer general guidance.

Can Storage Georgia open my storage unit?

In normal circumstances, no.

Your storage unit remains under your exclusive control, and Storage Georgia does not have a key to your padlock.

Access by Storage Georgia will only occur where permitted under the rental agreement or required by law, such as in an emergency, to protect life or property, or under a lawful court order.

Our commitment is to respect your privacy while maintaining a safe and secure facility.

Can I stay inside my storage unit for an extended period?

No.

Storage units are designed solely for the storage of goods and personal belongings.

For safety and security reasons, customers may not use storage units as living accommodation, offices, workshops, or recreational spaces.

Please complete your visit and leave the facility once you’ve finished accessing your belongings.

Can I work from my storage unit?

No.

Storage units are intended for storage purposes only.

Customers may organise, load, or unload their belongings, but they may not use their units as offices, workshops, manufacturing areas, or commercial premises.

If you require business premises rather than storage space, our team can discuss whether our facility is suitable for your intended use.

Can I bring friends or family when visiting?

Yes.

Customers may be accompanied by family members or friends while visiting their storage unit.

However, the customer remains responsible for ensuring that all visitors follow the facility rules and respect the safety and privacy of other customers.

Children should always remain under adult supervision while on the premises.

Can delivery companies access my storage unit?

Deliveries may be possible by prior arrangement.

If you’re expecting a delivery, please contact our office in advance so we can discuss the best way to manage access and ensure the delivery is handled efficiently.

Business customers who receive regular deliveries are encouraged to discuss their requirements with us.

What should I do if I notice something unusual while visiting?

If you notice anything that appears unusual—such as damage, suspicious activity, an unlocked gate, or anything that may affect the security of the facility—please notify our staff immediately.

Prompt reporting helps us respond quickly and maintain a safe environment for all customers.

If the matter is urgent and no staff member is immediately available, please follow the emergency contact procedures provided in your rental agreement.

What happens if I accidentally leave my unit unlocked?

If you realise you’ve left your storage unit unlocked, return to the facility as soon as possible and secure it.

If our staff discover that a unit appears unsecured, we may attempt to contact you using the contact details on your account.

For your own protection, we recommend checking that your unit is properly locked each time you leave.

How can I make my visits easier?

A little planning can save time and effort.

We recommend:

  • Labelling all boxes clearly.
  • Keeping frequently used items near the front of the unit.
  • Creating a simple inventory of stored items.
  • Leaving a small walkway if you’ll need regular access.
  • Using sturdy shelving where appropriate.
  • Bringing a trolley or moving equipment for heavier items if needed.

A well-organised storage unit makes every visit quicker and more convenient.

Security & Protecting Your Belongings

Is Storage Georgia a secure storage facility?

Yes.

Security is one of our highest priorities. We understand that our customers trust us with belongings that are often valuable, sentimental, or essential to their business. That’s why we’ve designed our facility to provide a safe, clean, and professionally managed environment.

Our security measures include:

  • CCTV monitoring
  • Controlled access to the facility
  • Individually secured storage units
  • Well-maintained premises
  • Professional on-site staff during office hours
  • Regular security inspections

While no storage facility can guarantee absolute protection against every possible event, we continually invest in maintaining a secure environment and encourage customers to take sensible precautions, such as using a quality padlock and arranging appropriate insurance.

Your belongings deserve a secure home. That’s exactly what we’ve built at Storage Georgia.

Is the property monitored by CCTV?

Yes.

The Storage Georgia facility is monitored by CCTV cameras to help protect our customers, their belongings, and our premises.

CCTV forms an important part of our overall security strategy by helping to deter unauthorised activity and assisting with investigations should an incident occur.

For privacy and security reasons, we do not disclose the exact locations or coverage of our cameras.

Are the storage units individually locked?

Yes.

Each storage unit is individually secured.

Customers provide their own padlock, meaning only they control access to their unit.

Because Storage Georgia does not keep duplicate keys, customers can have confidence that their belongings remain under their own control.

Who has access to my storage unit?

Only you—and anyone you specifically authorise.

Storage Georgia staff do not routinely access customer storage units.

Your unit remains private, and access is only permitted under exceptional circumstances, such as:

  • With your written permission.
  • Where required by law.
  • In an emergency to protect people or property.
  • As otherwise permitted under the rental agreement.

Your privacy is important to us, and we treat every customer’s belongings with respect.

Do Storage Georgia employees have keys to my unit?

No.

Storage Georgia does not keep keys or duplicate keys for customer padlocks.

This means our employees cannot open your storage unit during normal operations.

We believe this provides an additional level of privacy and reassurance for our customers.

Is the facility fenced and controlled?

Yes.

The facility has been designed to provide a controlled storage environment.

Customers access the premises through designated entry points, helping us maintain an organised and secure facility for everyone using our services.

Maintaining controlled access is an important part of protecting customer property.

Are the premises well maintained?

Absolutely.

A secure facility is also a well-maintained facility.

Our staff regularly inspect the property to ensure that:

  • Buildings remain in good condition.
  • Gates and access points operate correctly.
  • Common areas remain clean.
  • Lighting functions properly.

  • Unit changes
  • Customer support
  • Facility-related questions

What happens if suspicious activity is noticed?

We encourage all customers and visitors to report anything unusual immediately.

Examples include:

  • Someone attempting to enter another customer’s unit.
  • Damaged locks.
  • Suspicious vehicles.
  • Unauthorised persons on the property.
  • Vandalism.
  • Damage to the facility.

Prompt reporting allows us to respond quickly and, where appropriate, involve the relevant authorities.

Security is everyone’s responsibility.

What happens if someone attempts to break into a storage unit?

Fortunately, incidents of this nature are extremely rare.

If a suspected break-in occurs, our priority is protecting people and preserving evidence.

The appropriate authorities will be contacted where necessary, CCTV footage may be reviewed, and affected customers will be informed as soon as possible.

We also work with customers during any insurance claims by providing reasonable assistance where appropriate.

How can I help keep my belongings secure?

Security is a partnership between Storage Georgia and our customers.

We recommend that you:

  • Use a strong, high-quality padlock.
  • Never share your key unnecessarily.
  • Keep your contact details up to date.
  • Lock your unit every time you leave.
  • Avoid discussing valuable items publicly.
  • Consider arranging insurance for valuable belongings.
  • Report anything unusual immediately.

These simple steps help maximise the security of your stored belongings.

Should I insure my belongings?

Yes.

Although Storage Georgia provides a secure storage environment, we strongly recommend that customers arrange appropriate insurance for the value of the items they store.

Insurance provides additional peace of mind in the unlikely event of theft, fire, water damage, or other unforeseen circumstances.

If you’re unsure whether your household or business insurance provides cover while items are in storage, we recommend speaking to your insurance provider.

What happens if there is a fire?

Customer safety is always our first priority.

In the unlikely event of a fire:

  • Emergency services will be contacted immediately.
  • The facility will be evacuated if necessary.
  • Access to affected areas may be restricted until authorities declare them safe.
  • Customers will be kept informed as information becomes available.

We regularly maintain our facility to minimise risks and comply with applicable safety requirements.

What happens if severe weather damages the facility?

Although severe weather is uncommon, we have procedures in place to respond appropriately should it occur.

If an event affects customer access or stored belongings, we will:

  • Assess the situation promptly.
  • Take reasonable steps to secure the facility.
  • Contact affected customers where appropriate.
  • Work with emergency services or contractors if required.

Our goal is always to minimise disruption and protect customer property.

Will anyone know what I’m storing?

No.

Your privacy is important to us.

Storage Georgia employees do not inspect the contents of customer units during normal operations, and we do not disclose information about what customers store.

We ask customers to comply with the rental agreement regarding prohibited items, but otherwise your storage unit remains your private space.

What should I do if I lose my storage unit key?

If you’ve lost your key, contact our office.

We’ll verify your identity before discussing the available options.

Because customers provide their own locks, Storage Georgia cannot simply open your unit. In most cases, the padlock will need to be removed and replaced.

This process is designed to protect your belongings by ensuring only authorised customers gain access.

Can I use any padlock?

Most quality padlocks are suitable, but we recommend choosing a strong, weather-resistant lock from a reputable manufacturer.

A good padlock is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your belongings.

If you’re unsure which lock to buy, our team will gladly provide general recommendations.

Does Storage Georgia guarantee that nothing can happen to my belongings?

No storage provider can honestly make that guarantee.

While we take extensive measures to provide a secure facility, unexpected events can still occur.

For this reason, we recommend:

  • Using a quality padlock.
  • Packing your belongings carefully.
  • Keeping an inventory of stored items.
  • Arranging suitable insurance.

Our role is to provide a professionally managed, secure storage environment where customers can store their belongings with confidence.

Unsure about an item? Contact us before moving in. It’s always better to ask than assume.

Packing & Storage Tips

How should I pack my belongings for storage?

Packing your belongings properly before moving them into storage is one of the best ways to keep them in excellent condition.

We recommend using strong, good-quality moving boxes and packing similar items together. Fragile items should be wrapped individually using bubble wrap, packing paper, or blankets to protect them during transport and storage.

Avoid overfilling boxes, as this makes them difficult to lift and increases the risk of damage. Likewise, don’t leave boxes only partially full, as they may collapse when stacked.

Taking a little extra time to pack carefully will make moving in, storing, and unpacking much easier.

Packing Tip: Pack one room at a time and clearly label every box. You’ll thank yourself later.

Should I label all my boxes?

Yes.

Labelling every box is one of the simplest ways to stay organised.

Each label should include:

  • The room it came from.
  • A brief description of the contents.
  • Whether the contents are fragile.
  • Whether you’ll need the box soon.

For example:

  • Kitchen – Glasses
  • Main Bedroom – Winter Clothes
  • Office – Tax Records 2025
  • Garage – Power Tools

Good labelling saves a huge amount of time when you’re looking for specific items months later.

Should I create an inventory?

Absolutely.

An inventory is especially useful if you’re storing your belongings for several months or longer.

Your inventory can be as simple as:

Box Contents
Box 1 Kitchen utensils
Box 2 Books
Box 3 Children’s toys
Box 4 Winter clothing

Many customers also take photographs of valuable items before storing them.

What’s the best way to organise a storage unit?

Think of your storage unit like a small storeroom rather than a giant cupboard.

For the best organisation:

  • Place frequently used items near the entrance.
  • Store long-term items at the back.
  • Keep similar items together.
  • Stack boxes neatly.
  • Use the full height of the unit safely.
  • Leave a narrow walkway if you’ll need regular access.

A well-organised storage unit saves time every time you visit.

How should I stack boxes?

Stacking boxes correctly improves both safety and space efficiency.

We recommend:

  • Heavy boxes on the bottom.
  • Medium-weight boxes in the middle.
  • Light boxes on top.
  • Keep stacks stable and level.
  • Don’t stack boxes higher than is safe.
  • Avoid crushing fragile items.

Never place heavy furniture on top of cardboard boxes.

Can I use plastic containers instead of cardboard boxes?

Yes—and in many cases, plastic storage containers are an excellent option.

Plastic containers offer several advantages:

  • Stronger than cardboard.
  • Better protection from moisture and dust.
  • Easier to stack.
  • Reusable.
  • Transparent containers make it easy to identify contents.

For long-term storage, many customers prefer plastic containers over cardboard boxes.

Should I cover my furniture?

Yes.

Furniture should always be protected before being placed into storage.

We recommend using:

  • Furniture blankets.
  • Protective covers.
  • Cotton sheets.
  • Bubble wrap for delicate surfaces.

Avoid wrapping furniture tightly in non-breathable plastic for long periods, particularly wooden furniture, as trapped moisture may cause damage.

Should I disassemble furniture?

Where practical, yes.

Disassembling larger furniture can:

  • Save space.
  • Make moving easier.
  • Reduce the risk of damage.
  • Allow safer stacking.

Keep all screws, bolts, and fittings together in clearly labelled bags and tape them securely to the corresponding piece of furniture.

How should I store mattresses?

Mattresses should be:

  • Clean.
  • Completely dry.
  • Protected with a mattress cover.
  • Stored flat where possible.
  • Kept away from sharp objects.

Avoid placing heavy furniture on top of mattresses for extended periods.

How should I prepare appliances for storage?

Appliances should always be cleaned before storage.

For refrigerators and freezers:

  • Empty completely.
  • Defrost.
  • Clean thoroughly.
  • Dry completely.
  • Leave the doors slightly open.

For washing machines:

  • Drain all water.
  • Leave the door slightly open.
  • Secure loose hoses.

Taking these steps helps prevent mould and unpleasant odours.

Can I stack furniture?

Yes—but carefully.

Place heavier, sturdier items at the bottom and lighter items above.

Avoid placing excessive weight on:

  • Glass tables.
  • Wooden chairs.
  • Sofas.
  • Delicate cabinets.

Using moving blankets between stacked furniture helps prevent scratches.

Should I use shelving?

If you’ll be visiting your storage unit regularly, shelving can make it much easier to stay organised.

Shelving allows you to:

  • Access boxes quickly.
  • Use vertical space efficiently.
  • Keep fragile items safer.
  • Avoid constantly moving boxes.

For long-term business storage, shelving is often an excellent investment.

How do I protect fragile items?

Fragile items should always be packed individually.

Use:

  • Bubble wrap.
  • Packing paper.
  • Foam.
  • Blankets.
  • Sturdy boxes.

Clearly mark boxes as FRAGILE and avoid placing heavy objects on top.

What’s the best way to store electronics?

Before storing electronics:

  • Remove batteries where appropriate.
  • Wrap each item individually.
  • Store cables together.
  • Label everything clearly.
  • Use original packaging if available.

Avoid placing heavy items on televisions, monitors, computers, or speakers.

Can I store clothing for a long time?

Yes.

For long-term clothing storage:

  • Wash everything first.
  • Ensure clothing is completely dry.
  • Fold neatly.
  • Use sealed containers or wardrobe boxes.
  • Consider moisture absorbers if appropriate.

Proper preparation helps keep clothing fresh and ready to wear.

How can I maximise the space in my storage unit?

To make the most of your storage unit:

  • Use uniform-sized boxes.
  • Stack boxes safely.
  • Fill furniture drawers with lightweight items.
  • Store tables with legs removed where possible.
  • Stand sofas on end if appropriate.
  • Use the full height of the unit.
  • Leave a walkway only if you’ll need regular access.

Efficient packing often allows customers to fit far more into a unit than expected.

Should I visit my storage unit regularly?

If you’re storing items for an extended period, it’s a good idea to visit occasionally.

Regular visits allow you to:

  • Check that everything remains organised.
  • Retrieve items you need.
  • Update your inventory.
  • Add or remove belongings.

Business customers often visit more frequently than household customers.

What are the biggest mistakes people make when using self-storage?

Some of the most common mistakes include:

  • Choosing a unit that’s too small.
  • Not labelling boxes.
  • Forgetting what’s in storage.
  • Packing wet items.
  • Using weak cardboard boxes.
  • Placing heavy items on fragile furniture.
  • Not creating an inventory.
  • Blocking access to frequently used items.

Avoiding these mistakes makes your storage experience much more enjoyable.

Moving Out & Ending Your Rental

How do I end my storage rental?

Ending your storage rental is simple.

When you’re ready to move out, please notify Storage Georgia in writing in accordance with your rental agreement. This allows us to prepare for your departure, schedule the final inspection, and ensure everything is handled efficiently.

Before leaving, make sure you’ve removed all of your belongings, cleaned the unit, and removed your personal padlock.

Once the final inspection has been completed and all rental obligations have been met, your refundable security deposit will be processed in accordance with your rental agreement.

Planning to move out? Contact us as early as possible so we can help make the process quick and hassle-free.

How much notice do I need to give?

Storage Georgia requires one calendar month’s written notice if you wish to terminate your rental agreement.

Providing notice in advance helps us manage unit availability and ensures your move-out and deposit refund can be processed without unnecessary delays.

If you’re unsure when your notice period should begin, simply contact our office and we’ll gladly assist you.

What should I do before moving out?

Before vacating your storage unit, we recommend that you:

  • Remove all personal belongings.
  • Check that nothing has been left behind.
  • Remove your personal padlock.
  • Sweep the floor if necessary.
  • Dispose of any rubbish appropriately.
  • Ensure the unit is left in good condition.
  • Inform our staff once you’ve finished.

Taking a few minutes to inspect the unit yourself can help avoid delays during the final inspection.

Do I need to clean my storage unit?

Yes.

The storage unit should be returned in a clean and tidy condition.

This doesn’t require professional cleaning, but customers should:

  • Remove all personal belongings.
  • Sweep the floor if necessary.
  • Remove any packaging materials.
  • Dispose of rubbish.
  • Leave the unit in substantially the same condition in which it was rented, allowing for normal wear and tear.

Leaving the unit clean helps us prepare it for the next customer.

What happens during the final inspection?

Once you’ve informed us that you’ve finished moving out, a member of our team will inspect the storage unit.

During the inspection we’ll confirm that:

  • The unit is completely empty.
  • No personal belongings remain.
  • The unit has been left clean.
  • There is no damage beyond normal wear and tear.
  • All rental obligations have been fulfilled.

The inspection is usually quick and straightforward.

When will my security deposit be refunded?

Your refundable security deposit will be returned after:

  • Your notice period has been completed.
  • Your account has been paid in full.
  • The storage unit has passed the final inspection.
  • There are no outstanding charges in terms of the rental agreement.

If everything is in order, your deposit will be refunded in accordance with the procedures described in your rental agreement.

What happens if I leave items behind?

Please ensure that all of your belongings have been removed before leaving the facility.

If items are left behind after your rental has ended, they may be dealt with in accordance with the terms of your rental agreement and applicable law.

If you realise you’ve forgotten something shortly after moving out, contact us immediately and we’ll do our best to assist.

Can I move out outside office hours?

In many cases, yes, provided this takes place during the facility’s published access hours.

However, because a final inspection is required before your rental can be closed and your deposit processed, we recommend arranging your move-out with our office in advance.

This helps ensure that everything is completed efficiently.

Can someone else empty my storage unit for me?

Yes.

If someone else is moving your belongings on your behalf, please ensure they have your authorisation.

For security reasons, we may ask for identification or confirmation before allowing access.

If you’re unable to be present yourself, please contact our office beforehand so we can discuss the arrangements.

Can I extend my rental instead of moving out?

Absolutely.

If your plans change and you need your storage unit for longer than originally expected, simply let us know before your rental ends.

As long as your account is up to date and the unit remains available, we’ll be happy to extend your rental.

Many customers begin with short-term storage and later decide to continue for several more months.

What if I need a larger or smaller unit instead of moving out?

If your storage needs have changed, you don’t necessarily need to end your rental.

Subject to availability, you may transfer to a different-sized storage unit that better suits your requirements.

Our staff will gladly discuss the available options and help arrange the move.

What happens if I damage the storage unit?

Customers are responsible for taking reasonable care of their storage unit.

Normal wear and tear is expected, but if significant damage occurs during your rental period, please inform us as soon as possible.

Damage beyond normal wear and tear may affect the return of your security deposit, depending on the circumstances and the terms of your rental agreement.

What if I accidentally leave my padlock behind?

Please remember to remove your personal padlock before leaving.

If you forget, simply contact us as soon as possible.

We’ll explain the available options and help you recover it where practical.

Will I receive confirmation that my rental has ended?

Yes.

Once the move-out process has been completed, your account has been finalised, and the inspection has been completed, we’ll confirm that your rental agreement has ended.

If you require written confirmation for your records, simply let us know.

Can I rent another storage unit in the future?

Of course.

Many of our customers return whenever they need additional storage.

Whether you’re moving again, renovating, travelling, or simply need more space, we’d be delighted to welcome you back.

If you’ve previously stored with us, we’ll make the booking process as quick and straightforward as possible.

What if my moving date changes?

We understand that moving plans don’t always go exactly as expected.

If your moving date changes, please let us know as soon as possible.

We’ll do our best to accommodate your revised plans and help make the transition as smooth as possible.

How can I make moving out easier?

A little preparation goes a long way.

Before moving day:

  • Confirm your moving date.
  • Give the required written notice.
  • Arrange transport.
  • Pack your belongings securely.
  • Check your inventory.
  • Remove everything from the unit.
  • Inspect the unit yourself before notifying our staff.

These simple steps help ensure a smooth and efficient move-out process.

  • Spare parts
  • Promotional products

Can online stores use Storage Georgia?

Yes.

Self-storage is an excellent solution for online businesses.

Whether you sell through your own website, social media, or online marketplaces, a storage unit provides a secure place to organise and store inventory without the cost of commercial warehouse space.

Many online retailers appreciate the flexibility of expanding or reducing their storage space as their business grows.

Can I store office furniture?

Absolutely.

Storage units are ideal for storing office furniture during relocations, renovations, or when reducing office space.

Commonly stored items include:

  • Desks
  • Office chairs
  • Filing cabinets
  • Shelving
  • Meeting room furniture
  • Reception furniture
  • Office equipment

Properly storing furniture helps protect your investment until it’s needed again.

Can I store business records and archives?

Yes.

Many businesses store archived documents that must be retained for legal, accounting, or operational reasons.

We recommend:

  • Using archive boxes.
  • Clearly labelling each box.
  • Organising documents by year or department.
  • Keeping an inventory of stored files.

This makes retrieving records much easier when needed.

Can I store tools and equipment?

Yes.

Tradespeople and contractors regularly store:

  • Power tools
  • Hand tools
  • Electrical equipment
  • Plumbing equipment
  • Construction materials
  • Ladders
  • Safety equipment

We recommend cleaning tools before storage and keeping an inventory of valuable equipment.

Can I receive deliveries at my storage unit?

Storage Georgia may be able to accommodate deliveries by prior arrangement.

If you expect suppliers or courier companies to deliver goods to the facility, please contact us beforehand so we can discuss the most appropriate arrangements.

This helps ensure deliveries are handled safely and efficiently.

Can my employees access the storage unit?

Yes.

Business customers may authorise employees to access their storage unit.

To maintain security, we recommend keeping your list of authorised persons up to date and informing us whenever access permissions change.

If you have multiple staff members who require access, our team can explain the available options.

Can I rent multiple storage units?

Yes.

Many businesses rent multiple units to separate:

  • Different product lines.
  • Departments.
  • Seasonal inventory.
  • Equipment.
  • Archive storage.

If your storage requirements grow over time, we’ll be happy to discuss the most practical solution.

Can I operate my business from the storage unit?

No.

Storage units are designed for storage purposes only.

While you may load and unload goods, organise inventory, or collect stock, storage units may not be used as offices, workshops, manufacturing facilities, or retail premises.

If you’re unsure whether your intended use is appropriate, please speak to our team before renting.

Is self-storage cheaper than renting warehouse space?

For many small and medium-sized businesses, yes.

A storage unit often provides a much more affordable alternative to leasing warehouse or commercial premises, especially if you only need space for inventory, equipment, or archived records.

With self-storage, you only pay for the space you actually need, making it a flexible option as your business changes.

Can I change to a larger unit if my business grows?

Yes.

As your storage requirements increase, you may upgrade to a larger storage unit, subject to availability.

Likewise, if your storage needs decrease, you may be able to move to a smaller unit.

Our flexible approach means your storage solution can grow alongside your business.

Is business storage secure?

Yes.

We understand that business customers often store valuable inventory, equipment, or confidential records.

Our secure facility, CCTV monitoring, controlled access, and individually locked storage units provide peace of mind for businesses storing important assets.

We also recommend keeping an inventory of stored items and arranging appropriate insurance where necessary.

By moving excess inventory, equipment, or archived records into secure storage, you can:

  • Free up valuable workspace.
  • Improve organisation.
  • Reduce overhead costs.
  • Expand operations more efficiently.
  • Focus on growing your business rather than finding more office space.

Insurance & Liability

Are my belongings insured while they are in storage?

Storage Georgia provides a secure and professionally managed storage facility, but customers are responsible for arranging insurance for the items they store unless otherwise agreed in writing.

Many household and business insurance policies may already provide cover for belongings kept in storage, while others may require additional cover. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm exactly what is covered.

If you’re storing valuable items, antiques, business inventory, or sentimental belongings, appropriate insurance provides valuable peace of mind.

Need advice? Before moving valuable items into storage, speak to your insurance provider to make sure you have the right level of cover.

Do I need insurance?

Although insurance is not always mandatory, we strongly recommend it.

Unexpected events can happen anywhere, and insurance helps protect the value of your belongings against unforeseen circumstances.

The cost of insurance is often small compared to the value of the items being stored.

If you’re unsure whether your current insurance policy provides cover while your belongings are in storage, your insurer will be able to advise you.

What is Storage Georgia responsible for?

Storage Georgia is responsible for providing a clean, secure, and professionally managed storage facility in accordance with the rental agreement.

Our responsibilities include maintaining the facility, providing access during published access hours, and taking reasonable care of the common areas of the property.

Customers remain responsible for:

  • Choosing appropriate insurance.
  • Packing their belongings properly.
  • Using a suitable padlock.
  • Complying with the rental agreement.
  • Ensuring prohibited items are not stored.

The full responsibilities of both parties are explained in the rental agreement.

What am I responsible for?

As the customer, you are responsible for:

  • Packing your belongings safely.
  • Using a quality padlock.
  • Paying rent on time.
  • Keeping your contact details up to date.
  • Complying with the rental agreement.
  • Ensuring prohibited items are not stored.
  • Removing all belongings when your rental ends.

Taking these simple steps helps ensure a safe and successful storage experience.

What happens if my belongings are damaged?

If you discover that your belongings have been damaged, please notify Storage Georgia as soon as possible.

We’ll investigate the circumstances and assist where appropriate.

If your belongings are insured, you should also contact your insurance provider to begin the claims process.

Taking photographs and keeping an inventory of your stored items can be very helpful if you ever need to make a claim.

What happens if my belongings are stolen?

Storage Georgia takes security very seriously and has measures in place to help protect the facility.

In the unlikely event of a theft, we recommend that you:

  1. Notify Storage Georgia immediately.
  2. Report the matter to the police where appropriate.
  3. Contact your insurance provider.
  4. Prepare a list of the missing items.

We’ll cooperate with any investigation and provide reasonable assistance where required.

What happens if there is a fire?

Although fires are extremely uncommon, customer safety is always our highest priority.

If a fire occurs:

  • Emergency services will be contacted immediately.
  • The affected area will be secured.
  • Customers will be informed where appropriate.
  • Access may be temporarily restricted until the area is declared safe.

If your belongings are insured, your insurance provider will guide you through the claims process.

What happens if there is water damage?

Storage Georgia maintains its buildings to a high standard, but unexpected events such as severe weather or plumbing failures can occasionally occur.

If an incident affects stored belongings:

  • We will investigate the cause.
  • Take reasonable steps to minimise further damage.
  • Inform affected customers where appropriate.
  • Assist with any information required for insurance purposes.

Proper packing, sealed containers, and suitable insurance all help reduce potential risks.

Should I make a list of everything I’m storing?

Yes.

Keeping an inventory is one of the best ways to protect yourself.

Your inventory should include:

  • A description of each item.
  • Photographs of valuable belongings.
  • Serial numbers where applicable.
  • Estimated values for expensive items.

This information is extremely useful if you ever need to locate items or submit an insurance claim.

Should I photograph valuable items?

Absolutely.

Photographs provide a useful record of the condition of your belongings before they go into storage.

We recommend photographing:

  • Furniture.
  • Electronics.
  • Artwork.
  • Antiques.
  • Jewellery (if appropriate).
  • Business equipment.
  • Collectibles.

Store these photographs somewhere safe, such as cloud storage or an external drive.

Can I store very valuable items?

Many valuable household and business items can be stored safely.

However, we recommend that particularly valuable items are:

  • Properly packed.
  • Recorded in your inventory.
  • Photographed.
  • Adequately insured.

If you’re unsure whether a particular item is suitable for storage, please contact us before moving it into the facility.

Should I tell Storage Georgia what I’m storing?

You don’t need to provide a detailed inventory of your belongings.

However, if you’re storing unusually large items, business inventory, or anything that may require special consideration, it’s helpful to discuss this with our team beforehand.

We also ask customers to inform us if they are unsure whether an item complies with our storage policies.

What if someone else damages my belongings?

Storage Georgia is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all customers.

If an incident involving another customer or visitor is reported, we’ll investigate the matter and cooperate with the relevant authorities or insurers where appropriate.

Any questions regarding liability will be handled in accordance with the rental agreement and applicable law.

Does Storage Georgia inspect the contents of storage units?

No.

Your storage unit is private.

Storage Georgia does not routinely inspect the contents of customer units.

Access will only occur in exceptional circumstances, such as:

  • With your permission.
  • Where required by law.
  • In an emergency.
  • As otherwise permitted under the rental agreement.

Respecting customer privacy is an important part of our service.

Can I share my storage unit with someone else?

Yes, provided you remain responsible for the rental agreement and comply with the facility’s rules.

If another person will require regular access, we recommend informing our office so we can record the appropriate authorisation.

Remember that the primary account holder remains responsible for the storage unit and all obligations under the rental agreement.

Does Storage Georgia guarantee the condition of my belongings?

Storage Georgia provides a secure, professionally managed facility, but the long-term condition of stored items also depends on:

  • How they were packed.
  • Their condition before storage.
  • Whether they are suitable for storage.
  • How long they remain in storage.

Packing carefully, keeping items clean and dry, and arranging suitable insurance are the best ways to protect your belongings.
